The apartment was very small, but had everything we needed. The living room had a sofa-bed, a traditional heated table (mesa camilla) with chairs and a kitchen area with a fridge, microwave, an electric hob and utensils.
The bedroom was average size and had a comfortable double bed, wardrobe, and had access to a WC and a separate shower. Our shower was inside the room, which I found a bit weird, but I understand why. There is literally no space to build a proper ensuite bathroom.
The facilities were modest, but everything was clean and in order, which is everything I want from a one-night accommodation.
It’s a lovely restored 16th building and offers free wifi. We didn’t spend much time at the property, as we arrived in the evening and left in the morning for our walk. The house has a nice little patio and a library you can use.
The guy at the reception was extremely friendly, showing us around and giving us tips for things to do in the area. He speaks English, so you won’t have any communication problems if your Spanish is not very good. The owners are teachers and offer Spanish language courses, so you may consider staying there if you are looking for a language holiday experience in rural Spain.
The building was quite easy to find—you can’t get lost in Jerte, it’s pretty small. It’s located in calle Golfín, that runs parallel to the main road crossing the town from west to east. The cobblestone street is a bit narrow and there are no parking spaces. However, we found loads of space to park for free just 200 meters away in calle las Heras.
The location is very convenient for doing the 5-hour walking tour in Garganta de los Infiernos Nature Reserve. Our starting point was just 5 minutes away by foot.
This is a good place to stay if you are visiting the Jerte Valley. Some things you can do around here:
- walking tours in the Nature Reserve;
- enjoying the cherry blossom festival;
- practising water sports in local rivers (read about my canyoning experience).
